“Crits” is not short for “critters” as in the horrible creatures with a thrist for destruction and with self-serving agendas expressed to each other in their own gibberish. Those are crites, not crits.
A crit is a critical race theorist according to Richard Delgado and Jean Stefancic in Critical Race Theory - an Introduction.
They write,1
Critical race theorists (or “crits,” as they are sometimes called) . . .
They use the term crit themselves to refer to critical race theorists. For example,2
